OpenBCM - Document Engine

Writing documentation is hard enough. Managing it, and putting in the hands of the people that need it is even harder. Every office builds libraries of documentation for the staff, and even the external users. After years of working with wide variety of tools to accomplish the task of sharing the information, we finally ended up building our own. The goal was simplicity in use, and maintenance.

This Document Engine is a simply database backed storage facility for images and text files that is built around a Markdown documentation engine, wrapped in a simple and elegant presentation layer.

The Back End

Built to be able to scale from a single instance running against a Sqlite database, all the way up to a multi-instance distributed Azure SQL or PostgreSQL database, the engine can handle any volume and load. Pick your platform:

• Sqllite - lightweight, file system based, fast and extremely low cost
• PostgreSQL - robust, scalable, open source and readily available on most platforms
• Microsoft SQL Server - an industry standard, scalable and many businesses already have it
• Azure SQL Server - highly scalable, cloud hosted, ready for any load

The Front End

Developed as a modern, single page application using vue.js and javascript, the front end is clean, crisp, fast and easy to use and navigate. What it is not, is overburdened with the need to be everything to everyone. This is not a Content Management System, it is a document engine for getting people access to the information they need.

From an access point of view, there is documentation that anyone can access, there is documentation that is secured behind a user account and there is content that is further secured to an administrative level account.

The Deployment

Provided as a pair of containers, deploy in house using Docker, or a product like Podman, on virtually any platform, form Linux, to Windows, even on a Mac. Deploy to the cloud using Azure, Amazon, Google, Heroku or other options. Essentially anywhere you can run a Linux based container, you can deploy the Document Engine.

When Can I Have It?

Since we developed this in house for our use, there are some last details for us to clean up before we are ready to deliver to you, but if you are interested, please contact us at sales@satori-assoc.com and we will add you to our list of customers that would like to be the first. Our expectations of first deliverables is before the end of Q1 in 2026, at a price of $499 / year for access to updates and ongoing support. Once that year ends, the license remains in place for as long as you want to use the software, however, access to updates will be restricted.
